Phase IV:

Phase IV (2005-2006)

The HK group is in the process of installing 10 Kean-Smith stream flow gauges at the end of complete Strahler streams in the Whitewater Basin, and two flow gauges in a single link that is the focus of two new HK proposals for estimating RET as described in Phase V below. In addition, we are installing 14 rain gauging sites that will be used in tandem with a NEXRAD weather radar located nearby in Wichita, KS, to provide rainfall data. This instrumentation will be used to conduct an initial test of the physical basis of SSSON in peak flows. NSF and DOE (through the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement Climate Research Facility) are supporting this effort. The HK group is also conducting initial tests of SSSON in riparian areas under current NSF funding.
