A quality control access, display, and reporting system for MADIS John Kozimor1, Ted Habermann, Anna Milan1, Martin Aubrey1, Bill Barrett1, Dan Kowal2 1 Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES), University of Colorado at Boulder, 2 NOAA’s National Geophysical Data Center, Boulder, Colorado The Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System (MADIS) is one of the most successful data integration projects in NOAA. Real-time observations are retrieved from over 100 meteorological networks throughout the United States. These observations are ingested, integrated and quality controlled by MADIS. NGDC is currently working with MADIS to build a prototype system to retrieve and display MADIS QC reports. For the prototype, 9 reports for 5 MADIS networks were loaded into a database. The database was spatially enabled, and multiple web-based interfaces were implemented to access, and display the MADIS quality information. The interfaces include a combination of map and report driven views of the MADIS quality control statistics. These views provide value added information products, and quality control feedback to MADIS data providers and network managers. In parallel NGDC has been exploring how best to utilize the expanded documentation capabilities of the ISO 19115 standard. ISO 19115 includes an extensive data quality section previously unavailable in prior metadata standards. NGDC has determined how to utilize ISO 19115 to document MADIS DQ reports. NGDC has also developed an ISO generator which allows the user to create on demand, user defined ISO data quality reports for MADIS. Through a web based query interface, users can define the time period, parameters, and statistics for a given network to produce custom ISO DQ reports. Future plans include building more human friendly presentations of ISO DQ reports, such as maps and graphing applications. |
