A Southern Hemisphere Footprint in the American Midwest Cécile Penland and Ludmila Matrosova A non-normal filter is used to isolate the El Niño signal in tropical south Atlantic sea surface temperatures (SSTs). In boreal fall, the resulting index is significantly anti-correlated with precipitation in the American Midwest two to three seasons later. The phenomenological reasons for the relationship are explored in this poster. |
