2009 Rendezvous: Director's MessageCIRES Members: I am pleased to announce that CIRES is again presenting the Rendezvous, our fourth institute-wide symposium on Wednesday April 1, 2009. The CIRES Members' Council is planning this half-day of posters and presentations to familiarize you with the depth, breadth, and quality of the pacesetting science being done at CIRES. We hope to encourage collaborations that might result in new interdisciplinary research, and to facilitate connections among our many innovative scientists, science support staff and administrative staff. This year the entire afternoon is devoted to posters, which is the most interesting and interactive way to present the variety of research at the institute. We are happy for you to present posters that may have been presented previously at AMS, AGU, ACS, or other meetings. Of course, you are free to develop a new poster or present new work. Please contact the director of your unit if you wish to have your poster included. We are hoping to include approximately 80 posters. The Rendezvous will begin at 11:30 AM (poster set-up available at 10:30), and we plan to finish business by 4:30 PM and then enjoy happy hour. We are fortunate to again find ample space for this event on the Club Level of Folsom Stadium (venue). Poster presenters will be at their posters for the poster session after lunch. Catered lunch will include a brief "State of the Institute" address and our annual CIRES awards ceremony, featuring presentation of the Outstanding Performance Awards, the annual program administered by your CIRES Members' Council. I am again excited about this event, but it can only be successful if you help make it so. Everyone at CIRES is very strongly encouraged to attend for the full schedule. Science advisors and NOAA and CU administrators will also be invited. We are responding here to calls over the years to publicize what we do throughout the institute. Further communication about the event will be forthcoming, but mark your calendars now, and plan to join your many colleagues for this fun and interesting day. |
