Integration of the Colorado River has been proposed to be illustrated in this outcrop just south of Harrah's in Laughlin, NV, visited by GEOL4717/5717. Lowest gravels contain locally derived clasts, while the pronounced ledge contains large clasts thought to be deposited in a massive flood from overtopping and failure of an upstream lake. Above this, towards the left, is a thin ledge of Bouse Formation limestone thought to have been deposited as a lake filled this basin. Gravels containing considerable numbers of chert clasts and some Paleozoic limestones are thought to be from a throughgoing Colorado River into this basin. To the right, Scott is discussing these rocks. March 25, 2007.
