Colorado Mineral Belt

Introduction

The Colorado Mineral Belt represents a corridor of igneous activity that cuts north-northeast through central Colorado.   Geochemistry, timing of emplacement, and geographic locations of igneous rocks within the Colorado Mineral Belt (CMB) have been studied and their petrogenesis debated to great extents.   Some scientists claim the rocks support Laramide flat-slab subduction, some say they aren't related, others dispute the presence of a slab at all.   Despite all of the attention that the CMB commanded in the past, there remain no conclusive results as to where exactly these rocks came from or why they are here.   In the pages that follow, I will discuss the details and history of the CMB, focusing on the Laramide age rocks and events.
