PhD Graduates

Jonathan T. Fentzke (http://www.cora.nwra.com/~fentzke/) joined the Chu Research Group in 2005 and earned his PhD in Aerospace Engineering Sciences in 2009. His PhD dissertation, entitled “Observational and modeling studies of the meteoric input function in the MLT”, was co-advised by Dr. Diego Janches and Dr. Xinzhao Chu. He is now a Space Scientist at the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.

Zhangjun Wang studied and worked in the Chu Research Group from April 2009 to September 2010. Under the co-advice of Prof. Zhishen Liu of the Ocean University of China (OUC) and Prof. Xinzhao Chu, Zhangjun earned his PhD in Remote Sensing in 2011 at OUC. His PhD dissertation was entitled “Lower and Upper Atmosphere Wind & Temperature lidar System Based on Molecular-Filter and Fe Boltzmann Distribution”. He is now a lidar scientist at the Institute of Oceanographic Instrumentation, Shandong Academy of Sciences in Qingdao, China.

Chihoko Yamashita joined the Chu Research Group in December 2005. She received her Master of Science degree in 2008 with a thesis entitled “Lidar study of stratospheric gravity waves and their impacts on polar mesospheric clouds at the South Pole and Rothera, Antarctica”. Chihoko earned her PhD in Aerospace Engineering Sciences in December 2011. Her PhD thesis, entitled “Atmospheric Coupling Through Gravity Waves During Stratospheric Sudden Warmings: Gravity Wave Variations, Generation Mechanisms, and Impacts”, was co-advised by Dr. Xinzhao Chu and Dr. Hanli Liu of the National Center of Atmospheric Research (NCAR). She is now a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of California Berkeley.

Master Graduates

Ian Dahlke, (idahlke@kdclan.com)
Mr Ian Dahlke joined the Chu Research Group in August 2009, and earned his Master of Science degree in 2011. He made good contributions to the STAR lidar development.
