CU Boulder Privacy Policy

The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) protects the privacy of people who visit its websites at cires.colorado.edu. CIRES follows the University of Colorado at Boulder policies that govern the collection, storage, transfer, use and access to personal information.

Collection of Information

No personal information will be gathered on CIRS websites unless the user knowingly provides access to it. A user who chooses not to provide certain information may visit the CIRES websites but might be unable to access certain options, offers, and services that require personal information (example: payroll, personnel records for the user).

The CIRES web server automatically captures each visitor's domain name and IP address, which the CIRES Computing Facility uses to monitor usage patterns. This monitoring may record the type of activity and may include cookie placement and tracking, click tracking, or surveys regarding a visitor's online experience. All of the records are anonymous (no record of user's name, but IP is recorded).

Information on website use will be shared only with individuals within the university and NOAA community who require access to it in order to respond to a user request, to provide university services, or to conduct CIRES business.
