  8. Mission Definition Process

  9. Form a (technology-neutral) Mission Definition Team Sub-Group (M. Hardesty - Chair, R. Menzies, S. Mango, D. Emmitt, J. Yoe, R. Atlas, K. Miller, W. Baker) and deliberate on the various technology scenarios in the contest of what will constitute a meaningful demonstration mission (scientific and technological), as a step toward meeting the GTWS threshold requirements. Initially target the NPOESS C-2 spacecraft. Work backward from the NPOESS launch schedules. - M. Hardesty et al.

  10. Develop a long-term mission concept and schedule with key milestones. - M. Hardesty et al.

  13. Encourage participation by private industry. - M. Hardesty

  14. Schedule a JARG meeting in Key West in conjunction with the LWG meeting. - I. Guch

  15. Continue studies on projecting on-orbit performance based on demonstrated performance of ground-based and airborne systems. Concentrate on the domain of weak signals. Justify the areas where improved performance can be invoked in the space-based systems. - M. Hardesty, D. Emmitt, B. Gentry, M. Kavaya, M. Dehring

  16. Use the GLAS data to improve existing models of aerosol backscatter at both UV and NIR wavelengths. - D. Emmitt, J. Spinhirne, D. Bowdle
