Scientific Objectives
BEACHON-RoMBAS is a component of the overall BEACHON project and stands for "Bio-hydro-atmosphere interactions of Energy, Aerosols, Carbon, H2O, Organics & Nitrogen - Rocky Mountain Biogenic Aerosol Study." The scientific foci of the BEACHON-RoMBAS field experiment include the emissions of primary biological particles (PBAP) and secondary organic aerosol (SOA) precursors, and their transformations and impacts in the atmosphere. An important angle is the evaluation of the importance of water availability in those emissions, transformations, and impacts.
Practical Organization
- An email list has been set up <BEACHON-RoMBAS@googlegroups.com>. You can add others from your group, remove yourself, change the address with which you are subscribed, etc. at http://groups.google.com/group/BEACHON-RoMBAS/.
- A List of Instrumentation including power and space needs has been compiled. (If you want to participate or add instrumentation which is not currently listed, please let us know). We have recently recruited two PBAP instruments from Europe as well as other collaborators on SOA and other measurements.
- As a reference, the list of instrumentation for the BEACHON-ROCS-2010 field study is here.
- At present we are short on power by about a factor of 2. Thomas Karl had a similar problem for the 2010 Summer intensive, and we are going to meet with the NCAR Electrical Engineer (Dave Patterson) in the near future to discuss strategies for increasing the power at the site during the campaigns.
- Dates:
- Final dates: Jul-15-Aug 15, 2011
- Known constraints:
- Gordon Conference Atm Chem: July 24-29. Inconvenient but ok.
- CSU group: may have ICE-T project on June 20-July 15, 2011. But OK with Jul 15-Aug 15.
- CU group: classes start on Aug. 22
