ToF-AMS

  • If you have no signal
    • Check all the connections
    • Check whether you see the pulser pickup when plugging the signal into an oscilloscope
      • If yes, the pulsers and preamplifier are working
      • If not, it could be: (a) lack of power for the preamp; (b) damaged preamp; (c) damaged pulsers; (d) loose connection
    • If you have some ions
      • Check the single ion with bitwise, this tests whether the MCP could be damaged

Gilibrator

  • Unit will not turn on
    • remove flow cell
    • open back cover
    • unplug battery pack from main board
    • plug in power supply
    • If unit turns on battery pack is faulty, if unit does not turn on board is faulty.
    • Ordering battery pack: Reis environmental 1.800.677.7347 p/n 700560

SMPS

Impactor

  • displayed sample flow > CPC flow
    • Critical orifice in impactor is probably clogged
      • remove impactor from SMPS and disconnect flow meter tubes
      • remove and clean impactor plate
      • carefully wash the critical orifice that's just upstream of the impactor plate
      • dry throughly and reattach impactor

3081 Column

  • Changing Dacron Filter
  • Won't reach target voltage
    • result of arcing in the top portion of the column
      • check connection of HV wire to brass head (spring connection point is a set screw that holds the head in place)
      • check HV wire insulation for any distress repair with heat shrink
      • check ground wire and make sure it is adequately seperated from the HV wire repair with heat shrink
