** Discussion of cell phone towers:

*** First, find out which frequencies are used by the towers. Frequencies > 1 GHz or so are filtered by the Acquiris card (even with the highest "bandwidth" setting), while lower frequencies tend to be more problematic. Note that a company such as Verizon uses multiple frequencies at different towers (and sometimes in the same tower), so you need to find out the specific ones used there.

The detector picked up the rigth frequencies for the cell towers and with the expected spatial pattern (turns out that the antennas are very directional and don't transmit any energy directly below, even a few meters down). That equipment is expensive ($15k?) but I think there are companies that can do the testing for you (that said, it may be almost as much work as bringing the AMS there, depending how hard that is...).

5th AMS Users' Meeting - took place at Georgia Tech, October, 2004.

  • This meeting took take place right after the AAAR Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, Oct. 4-8, 2004.
  • There were a total of 33 presentations (12 talks and 21 posters) at AAAR using AMS data (not including late-breaking posters). These represented 5.7% of the 577 presentations at AAAR 2004. The AMS-related presentations are highlighted in green (talks) and blue (posters) in the following program: PDF Program and Word Program.

  • The 6th AMS Users' Meeting took place in the Fall of 2005 in Juelich (Germany) from noon on Thu. Aug. 25 till noon on Sun. Aug. 28. This was right before the 2005 European Aerosol Conference that took place in Ghent, Belgium from Mon. Aug. 29 till Fri. Sep. 2nd.

  • The AMS Users' Meeting in 2011 will be held at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel in Orlando, Florida the weekend prior to the AAAR meeting which will also be held in this hotel. This is the first time we have held our meeting at a hotel and we have chosen to do so because of the Florida location of the AAAR and for the convenience of our users. The AAAR meeting runs from October 3 through 7, 2011. The AMS Users' Meeting will be Oct 1-3 (Mon Oct. 3 does overlap with the tutorials of the AAAR Meeting).

    • Day 1 will focus on hardware, data acquisition, and analysis issues of importance to all AMS users. Progress and advances in new instrumentation (ACSM, SP-AMS, CIMS-AMS) will also be discussed.
    • Day 2 will primarily focus on ToF-AMS data analysis issues. New developments in the data analysis software (Squirrel, PIKA, PMF) will be introduced and best practice recommendations from the recent Boulder Clinic will be presented. More detailed schedules will be sent out shortly.
    • Day 3 will be not have a formal agenda to allow for those who plan to attend tutorials to do so but will be open for discussions of specific users’ questions and issues in an open mike format.
