This page serves as documentation for organization of the Jimenez Group's participation in CalNex-LA. Do not confuse this page with the Main CalNex-LA page or the CalNex-LA Logistics page.

Tasks in preparation for CalNex-LA

  • Field kit
    • check all UPSs (in process): Delphine
    • CPC 3010: Mike (at TSI, checking on scanning capability)
    • Orifices: Michael (start 4/1ish)
    • CPC comparison: Mike (tweaking labView code)
    • SMPS comparison: Ingrid, Michael (run, analysis in progress)
    • Sturdier foldable tables: Michael (Carly's guidance); still in process, have 2 to test ($59 each) get 4 more
    • Shelves + Racks: Ingrid (from home), Mike (from home), buy more?
    • add to the packing list things that don't go in boxes (tables, at least 7 chairs, gas cylinders, etc.) (Carly)
    • buy clamps or racks for gas cylinders, cylinder cart (Michael)
    • binder with copies of MSDS's, radioactive paperwork (Michael)
    • check Wilson case (field kit team, 4/2 morning)
    • buy 2 24-V power supplies (Michael)
  • Organization - Try to have ready by Mar 18 (next business mtg)
    • Which AMSs to bring: MAB-AMS + LAB-AMS + C-AMS
    • AMS alternation: PAM + TD: on LAB-AMS

      • concentrator: Sanna will come 1st 2 weeks, she can send concentrator to CU in advance: we will use w/ MAB (Jose, Carly emailing with Sanna)

      • Need to be able to step vaporizer temperatures: Carly + Joel
      • Inlet schematic for J-Group instruments: account for all fittings + tubing a priori: (Mike in progress). Include how to test for leaks and flows.

Tasks for Michael at the site

  • Immediately upon arrival at the site
    • Check electrical connections with plug tester
    • Label all the plugs in all trailers with the circuit number, if not already labeled.
    • Make power budget sheet for each trailer, post prominently.
    • Check all pumps with DustTrak and portable CPC (need to borrow from Suzanne Hering) as they are being installed.
    • Post maps of Caltech and the local area, as well as hardware stores etc. in all trailers (next to door).
    • Pick up rental car (minivan)
  • Not immediately, but during the study
    • Collect samples of chiller water and the chemicals added to it. Discuss that people can sample them if needed. (Bring many small vials to distribute)
    • Keep on top of butanol scrubbing for our CPCs

    • Updates: Housing Share with the Murphy Group from UToronto. J-group ladies apt will have: Carly, Amber, Ingrid, + (Sanna or Delphine until May 20) + Raluca (from May 20 onwards). The Murphy group (UToronto) will have one apartment in the same complex, with Jen + Raluca + (Sanna or Delphine) until May 20. Raluca and Amber will coordinate payment - Murphy group pay 1/4 of the J-group apt (~$33/night) for ~20 nights (30 nights in the J-group apt minus the ~10 nights Sanna or Delphine will share with the Murphy group).
