This Wiki page is a repository for information for the Organization and Logistics of the DAURE Campaign. Anyone involved in the campaign can add information directly, but due to problems with Spam you do need to login (and create an account if you don't have one already). You can also email Jose with any information and he can add it quickly to the site.

Location and Logistics of Urban (Barcelona) Site

Location and Logistics of Rural (Montseny) Site

  • The rural site will be in the Montseny National park, this map has a general relation of the site with Barcelona
    • We will be staying at Can-Marc Rural Hostel. There is free wifi at the hostel and a restaurant that can provide breakfast and dinner.
    • The last stretch of road to the Montseny site is still in bad shape (it would be tricky for a regular car). Andres says (3-Feb) that they have been promised that it will be repaired, but they are not sure how complete those will be. The plan is to have two cars there, as detailed in this spreadsheet
    • There is a regional train line ('Linea de Cercanias C2 de RENFE') from downtown Barcelona to a station near the site (Palautordera is the closest station, or Sant Celoni is also nearby) This map shows the path from the Palautordera train station to the house where we will be staying (Can-Marc)
    • The best mobile phone and mobile internet coverage at the rural site is with "Telefonica / Movistar". Those of you with a GSM phone can buy a SIM card to get in their network.
    • There is a phone landline at the site, which we may be able to use for dialup internet (will check on 12-Feb). (free dialup in Spain: Gonuts4free)
    • It may be possible to get internet access with a USB modem over the cell phone network (will check on 12-Feb)
    • We have explored satellite internet but it is expensive (3000 euros for 1 yr or 6000 euros for 3 yrs) so we are not planning on having it
  • Places to get supplies etc
    • For computer components, two large shops located near the Institute are PC City and FNAC, which are in the Centro Comercial L'illa

Instrumentation

  • Jimenez group is bringing: PAM + 1 laptop, switching valve system (for PAM) + 2 laptops, SMPS + CPC (no charger), multicomponent box of boxes, DustTrak
  • J-group is borrowing: HR-TOF-AMS from Eiko Nemitz (CEH, UK)

    • AMS will be shipped on 9 Feb to the attention of Xavier Querol at CSIC. It should take 4 working days.
    • The software has been updated.
    • we have shipped: spare V301,4 spare filaments, 2 pinholes, spare MDI diaphragm, a nafion dryer, 4 Charles Austen pumps, a spare MCP
  • PSI will bring 2 spare turbo pumps (1 small, 1 large) and spare filaments for sure. For the MCPs, they still have to check
  • Things that Colorado needs to bring
    • nafion dryer (Eiko doesn't have extra)
    • SMPS and CPC (NO charger)
    • miniature tools for AMS (Eiko doesn't have 2)
  • Sally Ng and John Jayne of Aerodyne are bringing a Mini-AMS (ACSM)

Price of a single room:

1 month: 652 Euros (room only, without breakfast, you will have a small kitchen in the rrom) + 75 Euros contract for 2008. Additional fees: 12+35 Euros for water and electricity consumption IMPORTANT: WHEN BOOKING PLEASE MENTION THAT THE BOOKING IS IN THE FRAMEWORK OF 'DAURE' PRICES ARE MUCH REDUCED BECAUSE WE GET THE RATES FOR UPC UNIVERSITY STAFF, OTHERWISE IT IS MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE. 1 day: Single Monday to Friday 62.5 Euros, Week end 51.5 Euros [1]

At Montseny there is free (very basic) accomodation if you bring sheets and a blanket or a sleeping bag. The rural house has central heating and a fireplace but this can not be used. We will get electric heaters. Telephone, water, power, beds, a basic lab, some offices and a kitchen will be available. We are trying to get internet there but this may be not possible. Cellular phones from Movistar get service there but Vodafone dont.

The main problem at Montseny is the access road (gravel / rock) which can be difficult, especially in case of snow.

Normal cars may have difficulties in travelling across this track.

Closest vilages to Montseny site are: Santa María de Palautordera and Sant Esteve de Palautordera. Restaurants and accomodation are available also overthere. Montseny is 1.5 h driving from Barcelona and 20 min from the above villages.

Issues to deal with

  • Eiko Nemitz, email of 26-Nov-2007: "I would be interested to investigate the possibility to measure NH3 and HNO3 also. Modelling of NH4NO3 is still a major uncertainty in the European regional models, including the EMEP model. We could potentially loan a simple rotating wet denuder which fills hourly samples into test tubes for subsequent laboratory analysis for NH4+ and anions (HNO3, HCl, SO2). However, this would require laboratory analysis of 24 x 30 samples + some blanks for each month by some local lab. Is there a chance for the Spanish ministry to support this measurement?"
