The 1925 Gros Ventre (pronounced "grow vahnt") Landslide dammed the Gros Ventre River for two years before the dam was washed away, destroying towns downstream. The slide carried Paleozoic rocks of the Gros Ventre Range of the Central Rocky Mountains more or less along dip. Older slides have been identified in the area.
