The bright white rock of this High Sierran landscape around Lake Aloha in the Desolation Wilderness of California is the Cretaceous Desolation Valley Granodiorite. Lake Aloha is actually a small reservior enlarging a glaciated series of small lakes in Desolation Valley. (This is one of the most heavily used Wilderness Areas in California).
