Pliocene to Pleistocene Lunar Crater Maar in the Pancake Range of central Nevada, Northern Basin and Range. Pieces of the upper mantle and crust can be found on the ground around the crater; they were brought up by the intensity of the eruption. Underneath probably lies a diatreme similar to those now eroded out in the Colorado Plateau near Four Corners. Eruptions such as this give us direct samples of deep levels of the lithosphere.
