Ward Lake emptied after the artifical dam collapsed in the 1897 earthquake. The flood killed two people downstream - a retired surveyor and a chld. Compare with Figure 11 of same bridge and approach ramp prior to earthquake, with tonka and driver. The curved fence to prevent the egress of cattle on the right is visible in both before and after scenes. The dam appears to have been made of earth fill.
