CIRES Grad Elected to National Academy of Sciences

Former CIRES graduate student Greg Asner is one of 84 new members and 21 foreign associates recently elected to the prestigious National Academy of Sciences in “recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.” Asner received his Ph.D. in environmental biology from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1997. He is now a faculty scientist at the Carnegie Institution for Science in the Department of Global Ecology. In his research, Asner uses satellites and aircraft to investigate environmental issues such as tropical deforestation, ecosystem diversity, invasive species, and climate change.
