Overlook east of the town of Escalante over the Escalante River area. Initial view to the northeast to the Henry Mountains beyond the Waterpocket Fold. To the north (left) is Boulder Mountain, capped by Neogene basalts. To the southeast is Navajo Mountain near Page, Arizona and Lake Powell, where the Escalante River drains. The region in view in nearly entirely Navajo Sandstone from the early Jurassic and late Triassic; some darker areas of the Kayenta Sandstone are visible in the canyon below the Henry Mountains.
