Hide... View from the west side of the Hole In the Wall. The Funeral Mountains are just visible through the "hole" at left. The large ridge exposure is of the Furnace Creek Formation, here exhibiting a very nice facies variation from fan deposits at left (debris flows and boulder conglomerates) to fine grained lake deposits at right. Across the yellowish claystones of the lakebeds is the north end of the Black Mountains. Farther right is the Panamint Range (in sunlight); a nice desert pavement is in the foreground in this direction. Return to panorama index page |
