Meteor Crater, Arizona:
[View QuickTime VR]
(Shift goes in, control goes out, click-drag to move around)
From the north rim viewpoint, with an initial view to the west along the
crater rim. Overturned strata of the upper Paleozoic section is visible,
as the brown Moenkopi gets overturned and covered with underlying white
Kaibab Limestone. This inversion of the strata is a key indicator of
the impact origin of the crater. As you pan right you can see the San
Francisco Peaks in the distance,
then further right are the Hopi Buttes (a mid-Cenozoic volcanic center).
