Upper Kern Basin from Mt. Tyndall, Sequoia National Park, California

(Shift goes in, control goes out, click-drag to move around)

View from Mt. Tyndall, the first 14,000' peak with a recorded ascent. Initial view to the west across the Kern Canyon to the Kaweah Peaks in the Great Western Divide. Views to the left clearly show the Chagoopa Plateau surface (forested area of the Bighorn Plateau) and a higher gentle surface that might be related to the Boreal Plateau farther south. Farther to the right, Milestone Mountain is prominent (the narrow milestone-like summit), with Midway Mountain to the right of Milestone. At far right, the Kings Kern Divide is in view, with Mt. Genevra illuminated above and left of a lake in the right middleground and Mt. Brewer prominently visible above and right of that (large peak with considerable snow on the left side), North Guard and Mt Farquhar to the right. Edge of Diamond Mesa at right middleground below flanks of Caltech Peak (just off right). August 15, 1982.
