Murdock Lake/Benson Lake region, Yosemite National Park, California

(Shift goes in, control goes out, click-drag to move around)

View from a small peak to the northeast of Murdock Lake reveals much of northern Yosemite. Initial view to south over Murdock Lake with West Peak over the lake, Regulation Peak to the left with a large shadow and Pettit Peak just slightly left of Regulation. Peaks on the righthand horizon are near Mt. Hoffmann, with Grand Mountain perhaps in view. Going to the left, a prominent peak with a steep, shaded left side is Volunteer Peak. Smedberg Lake is visible to the left. The Pacific Crest Trail passes through this lake basin. On the horizon to the right of Smedberg is Excelsior Mountain and the faint light peak in the notch just right of Volunteer is Mt. Conness. Dark triangle on the horizon just left of Smedburg is Virginia Peak. Farther left in the distance is Matterhorn Peak at the northeastern edge of Yosemite National Park; it is just above and right of a distant forested slope that is part of Slide Canyon. Swinging farther to the left through north, a nearer shaded peak above the foreground cliff is Piute Mountain. Benson Lake is hidden by the foreground rocks below and left of Piute Mtn.
