Southern Sierra Nevada, California:
[View QuickTime VR]
(Shift goes in, control goes out, click-drag to move around)
From the Cerro Gordo Road above Keeler.
View ranges from the High Sierra (initial view has Mt. Langley on the left, Mt.
Whitney near dead center, and Mt. Williamson on the right) across
Owens Valley and the Alabama Hills. As you pan left (towards the west
and south) the flatter crest of the southern Sierra is over the salt
pan of Owens Lake. Keeler lies at the old lake shore (it was the shipping
point for silver from Cerro Gordo); directly above it on the crest is
Olancha Peak. Continuing south, the Coso Range is to the south of Owens
Lake, with some of the older volcanics in this area visible as the dark
flows capping the southernmost Inyos at the very left of the image.
