Summer Phase
Details to go here.
To-do List for ARCTAS
Immediate logistics/parts
- Make basic loss calculations on inlet
- (Buy new MD1)
- test new pump in lab with needle valve for max obtainable flow
- Check we have enough MCPs (2 sets)
- Find 3rd TSI flowmeter
- 300um orifice lead time (ML)
Data Analysis before summer (in approx order of priority)
- Polish and send slides - b4 May 12th
- Process fast data (Donna?) and resubmit with those
- Generate PToF data:
- Compare to Grimm, LARGE OPC+SMPS, SP2 OPC (>250nm) to evaluate size transmission
- Evaluate whether the different slopes with light scattering are due to size distribution changes (F8)
Data analysis before summer, pending enough time
- Evaluate the O/C data from Allison
- Why are filter levels for Org (maybe also NO3, m/z 16) variable (TO/landing)?
- is it mz29 or 44? Quantify in TT and squirrel
- Implement the time-dependent CO2 and H2O corrections for the flights (or decide that they are not needed)
- We can probably measure frag_org[18] directly in this way
- Use plumes to align our data to others
Post ARCTAS-2
- Repeat PCI transmission experiment
For Donna (in approx order of priority)
- Improve Squirreling of the Fast Mode data (F4 and/or F5)
For Mike on non-immediate timescale, but before summer
- Backup all plane software (incl LabVIEW,TD) on FTP site (including menus and .set files)
- (Document inlet geometry and lengths), calculate residence time
- Replot timetrace of all flights on "standard format", give copy to Jose for reference)
- Install all plane software on Mike's laptop, so that his personal laptop can serve as backup for plane laptop in case of catastrophic failure, and test that it works
- Start, mid-flight, and shutdown checklists
- Check existing Igor code for offloading Grimm data (to intercompare the Grimm immediately after a flight)
- Get BWP off c-ToF or JJ and test it (out of vac) to verify correct software operation
Instrument - Critical pre-CARB at Palmdale
- Install MCP
- Install MD1
- Increase bypass flow on inlet line (now limited to ~2.5 lpm)
- Change our inlet line to 3/8" to allow more flow if possible
- If we can afford the pumping, replumb the Grimm to sample through a critical orifice
- install TSI flowmeter on this pumping line (filter ahead), log flow
- Install new Omega PID controller
Instrument - If enough time at Palmdale
- Measure IE/AB over a full day (transient effects)
- Fix 12 V power supply in TPS for preamp
- Install HV supply for hard mirrow, so that we can run W-mode in forest fire plumes
- (Waiting for Thomas about TPS error message: uups... / data crc / rx error: 5)
- Get soldering iron with a finer tip
- Connect UPS software for battery indication
- Make sure we have a spare battery for thermocouple in plane
- Get an install 2 bike cupholders
Before Summer Campaign
- Be ready to submit data 48 hrs after each flight (24 better if possible)
- Think whether to run at higher MCP and lower emission current for forest fires (less chance of missing threshold, reduce change of saturation in fires)
- Stuff for Joel
- Fix timetrace for Fast mode (SO4 goes down, others go up) -- already told him
- Gaps of 5s in fast timetrace?
- Timetrace of a few HR peaks as in flux mode?
- Test and enable cell-phone filtering
- See if we can buy/lease a spare TPS from Tofwerk
- Bring spare laptop with everything installed, test that everything works, keep in plane
- Have MichaelL ship He lecture bottle just before CARB
- Investigate how we can refill the lecture bottle (ask Eric Apel)
- Ask John whether AC-powered MD1 could run AMS (as backup?)
- Put together leak detector with V70, controller, AC MD1, and SRS or Balzers RGA
- Get more white HEPA filters
Integration Phase

- 2/22: Truck leaves Boulder with AMS and rest of kit
- 2/29: Truck arrives in Palmdale,
- 3/4: AMS onto plane
