Rocky Mountain Snowstorm of '03

Twin Sisters Valley, Colorado, March 18, 2003 The National Weather Service predicted this storm Sunday afternoon. You could tell it was going to be a big'n' when they issued a winter storm warning that far in advance. As of 3:00 p.m. today (Tuesday), we haven't been disappointed. Monday morning we woke up to an inch of snow, and went in to work. It rained most of the day in Boulder, and when we got home it had snowed most of the day up here, accumulating about 5" by evening. By the time we went to bed, it was snowing in earnest, and these pictures are what we've had so far today. It's been snowing hard all day. Stay tuned to this site for updates, if the power and my internet connection hold out! (Click on any of the thumbnails for a larger image.)

9:00 a.m., the deck with the hot tub (big mound to the right).

The Weber grill, a.k.a "conehead"

Birdies at the feeder (Black-capped chickadee)

The cars. (Subaru's in the foreground, truck's further back)

Hans, shovelling the roof on the music studio.

The south meadow. I'll take more of this view as the storm progresses, so watch how much of the fence is covered.

Wagon wheel against the wood shed.

Noon. Back to the hot tub deck.

2:30 p.m. Hans decides he's going to need snowshoes to go to the workshop. Arrow is helping.

He pulled the shoes off the wall and fashioned a rope binding.

Remember the hot tub deck?

And away he goes...

...and goes.

Arrow and Semi by the woodfire. ("Worried? We're not worried!")

Semi says that she knows where to go to stay warm (she doesn't really understand that this won't work if the power fails...)
