Rocky Mountain Snowstorm of '03

Twin Sisters Valley, Colorado, Noon, March 19, 2003. Lunchtime, for the birdies as well as us. Power and phones still up, amazing. Still snowing. Hans is out shovelling the roof, again. Have been checking on the neighbors by phone. (Click on any of the thumbnails for a larger image.)

11:40 a.m. Gray-headed juncos, "under" (i.e. "beside") the feeder (the snow depth is about waist-high for me, standing on the deck).

Mountain chickadee on a Ponderosa branch

...and another.

Juncos, Oregon junco on the left, Gray-headed junco on the right.

Conehead.

South meadow.

Wagon wheel.

The vehicles. (Yes, that is indeed my clothesline.)

The hot tub deck. That new snow has fallen, not blown. Thank goodness there's no wind in this storm. (Is this the kind of thing the Donner party was fighting in the Sierras?)
